I want to have my child baptized.

One month’s notice is required in order to adequately prepare first time parents, with a preparation course. Those having their first child baptized are required to take our baptismal preparation course. To register, call the Parish Office at 882-2622.

I would like to be baptized. What should I do?

Under normal circumstances if you are not yet a Catholic and would like to become one and be baptized we require that you receive instruction on the Catholic Faith through our R.C.I.A. program. To find out more information about our R.C.I.A. program please call the Parish Office at 882-2622.

What is Baptism?

As the quotation below says, Baptism takes away sins and unites us to God by allowing us to share in his divine life. It gives us what we call the “theological virtues” which are faith, hope, and charity, as well as giving us the gifts of the Holy Spirit (Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety, Fear of the Lord). Baptism takes away original sin, all personal sins and all punishment due to sin. It makes the baptized person a participant in the divine life of the Trinity through sanctifying grace, the grace of justification which incorporates one into Christ and into his Church. It gives one a share in the priesthood of Christ and provides the basis for communion with all Christians. It bestows the theological virtues and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. A baptized person belongs forever to Christ. He is marked with the indelible seal of Christ (character). (Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, 263)

Why do we need to be baptized?

We must be baptized because we are born with original sin and the sharing in God’s life that baptism brings. “Baptism is necessary for salvation for all those to whom the Gospel has been proclaimed and who have had the possibility of asking for the sacrament” (Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, 261).
